tweetie pie

Bringing Charli and her friend Kimberley to college  yesterday they starting practicing their lines for a play they are doing for their Acting course when suddenly they started to do the characters as Tweetie Pie and Sylvester, the play is a hard hitting working class Glasgow Community lots of swearing and reference to drugs, so to hear it in the voices of Tweetie Pie and Sylvester had me laughing so much I nearly crashed into 2 other cars, then the looks from other car occupants as a whole car was laughing and looking like they must be on something made us laugh even  more.
Its never dull when Charli is around.
PS I tried to get them to actually do the play in the voices but it seems they couldn't convince the rest of the cast to agree SHAME I for one would pay to see it

Stranger Danger

Sitting in the Car in college carpark when suddenly the passenger door opens an this Women sits down in the passenger seat, looks at me and screams "who the hell are you",i know who the hell I am and where I am .She leapt out so fast wacking her head on the door surround, am now trying to recover my sanity by putting the whole thing into a song ,why do they always pick on me

Before & After

The beginning of my mask covered in modrock.

Further into the process of creating the wing and cocoon.

After it had been designed and painted.

The use of gold to make the smaller leaf design on the dark blue.

The wing of the butterfly in red and black with white swirls and dots with a hint of gold.

The design of the mask as a whole.

pheasents

Driving along with my lovely daughter when as usual a Pheasant wanders across the road " stupid bird why don't they just fly instead of just running demented in front of the car "when my daughter say's "do you know why they don't always fly" "no" says I, "well dad its because they can only fly twice in their lives and that one has probably used it's two flights. With a completely straight face I asked her how she came upon this information, she said her friend L....... had told her and she wouldn't tell a lie, I couldn't keep the straight face any longer and just burst out laughing at the same time splattering the Pheasant all over the road. Now the dilemma do I tell my lovely daughter her friend was winding her up, or keep quiet and let her tell the next person she's with the same story when the Pheasant wanders across the road. #Flying Pheasant

Plaster

Watching Grey's Anatomy with Debbie, scene comes up where doctor is standing on a hill top surrounded by hundreds of t-lights,
A,where the !!!!!! did they come from,B,so called hilltop wind candles don't go out, ranting about unreality,Debs points out previous scene girl has major brain surgery 2 hours later all she has is a Plaster on her head, and this series has a real Doctor with about 10 letters after his name as the expert series consultant, people please I could do that job better for half the Fee

Oh Goodie

Today I was given an assignment for my College course,go into women's clothes shops find 3 types of ladies outfits take them to the changing rooms and photograph them, you cant believe the kind of looks a guy gets taking women's clothes into the changing rooms,a cross between live and let live and "he doesn't look like a cross dresser"'
Never mind the clothes assignment,it was brilliant for people reactions.
AWESOME

Being Shy

Being shy is not easy, you can lose opportunities and is a lot more harder to make friends. You see I have been shy for as long as I can remember, though I did have a little bit of confidence as I could stand up for myself and have fun outside with my friends. But since I moved to Ayr it had shattered the last of my confidence. I found it harder to start or  get involved in conversations and it had taken me months to make friends, Going to secondary school had only made things worse, I started getting picked on for my natural hair colour, my weight and my shyness. It never helped when I started walking around the school in S5 alone because I felt like I was invisible in the group of friends I was hanging about with no one around the school corridors, also considering my home problems had gotten worse. Which has only made me hold back and not just go for it and be this confident person that I want to be. If I was not shy I would have progressed in childcare, but I don't regret the courses I went in after that like Step into Learning where it had helped me with my confidence. I am quiet, that is who I am, I wish in the future I can push myself to be confident. In a way what I am saying is don't let things hold you back, not even your shyness or the fear that college is going to be the same as school, because it's not really and for me college was better than school.

Interviewing Sara Turkington

1)   What do you do as an LDA?

The role bridges between enhancing essential skills development and pastoral guidance. There’s a number of different classes which we might take for an hour or two depending of level of course and the sessions we do with our students, can be on for example equality and diversity. And health and well-being and employability. The 1 to 1 support with students involves talking about any issues they might have whether inside college or outside college.
 2)   What is the purpose of your job?

The purpose of my job is to develop essential skills, as well a pastoral guidance. This means we support the retention, achievement, progression of students. We work with curriculum/programmes team to support our students successfully of this course.

3)   How do you as an LDA help students?
I think a big part of our job is to listen as a way of supporting our students to be successful. That might mean we sign post them to other organisations or make referrals to our counselling service.

4)   What are the ups and downs of your job?

Getting to know students and building a good relationship with them and feeling like I have contributed in some way to making their college life a good one.
Only so much help and support we can give and lots of our students have personal issues.

5)   What would you have done differently?

As I was doing a lesson on discrimination, I did a experiment with the students. But looking back I had split my former step class into two groups by eye colour. I had treated the blue eyed group differently from the group that had mixed eye colour. At the end of experimenting with the students I had spoken to the students about it and a few students had gotten upset about the experiment. So I would be more sensitive and more aware of student’s previous experience.

6)   How many years have you been working as an LDA?

This is my 4th year.
